And we're off...

So I'm going on a getaway this weekend, starting on Thursday. But I don't know where yet, because my other half is surprising me. Isn't that marvelous?! Not to mention dazzlingly fabulous. All I know is that it involves a beach, and whole lot of doing nothing, which is one my absolute favorite things to do in the whole wide world. I am one lucky duck. In the meantime, Happy Halloween! Have a great weekend, and I'll see you all next week.

Stanelli's Super Circus

I really can't stop thinking about how brilliant this photo series is, Stanelli's Super Circus, by Luke Stephenson , ever since I saw it on Flickr the other day. Amazing. Trust me that you will be happy to check out the rest of them on his stream. (I mentioned that they are awesome, no?)

Calypso

Everything at Calypso is so darn perfect it's almost too much. Christiane Celle really has me pegged, down to the menswear styling, long wavy hair, and groovy rings. Right now I like the idea of these three things together.

X House

This is a fabulous house, spotted at Dwell, well thought through and designed to embrace a no frills attitude. Since I'm feeling kind of sluggish today, I'm going to let the fabulous pictures speak for themselves. Photos by Christopher Sturman for Dwell.

Yumminess is...

Eating dinner with friends. Doing anything in the sunshine. Wine. Looking at Jen Gotch's dreamy polaroids...

Tolix Chairs

I am totally fantasizing about these Tolix chairs, both new in vintage, that are in an array of beautiful blues and greens. I think I've finally figured out what my favorite color scheme is. From Antiquaire, via Remodelista.

I HEART hearts

I find these heart invitations from the lovely duo over at Bird and Banner to be just lovely. So pretty and sweet!

Green Rooms

I don't know about you, but my life has been moving at 500milesperhour these days. Must get to sleep early. And stop drinking so much coffee. And exercise. And eat right and get all my work done and be a nice person. You see what I mean? So for tonight, I'm going to fall asleep imagining that I'm lollygagging around in one of these lush gardens designed by Deborah Nevins. If you want to see more of her work, be sure to check out a feature in the latest Vogue.

Le Week-end

Happy Friday! It's a gorgeous day today here in SF, and I just got back from a lovely walk on the beach. There was this beautiful haze wrapping itself around the sand. Wish I had brought my camera... Tonight, we are making dinner for some old friends, and then hitting up this awesome 80s dance party (Prince versus MJ!) tomorrow night. It has been waaay too long since I've boogied. What are you guys up to? Whatever it may be, have a wonderful weekend. P.S. - Isn't that photo just gorgeous?

Since we're on shoes...

Here are some shoes from Camper that I absolutely love...

Rainy Day Boots

I've heard an awful lot about what winter looks like in San Francisco, and saw a supposedly early version of that rainy winter season this week. I'm not quite sure just how rainy this winter will be, but compared to the past six years of 300 days of Colorado sunshine, I'm gonna go ahead that and say that no matter what I need me some rain boots. I'm deciding between two versions: Hunter originals and Hunter shorts. The originals sort of feel like the Audrey Hepburn of outdoors clothing. Elegant, sophisticated, clean. And the shorts then are the Cate Blanchett--original, punky, fresh. Since I can't decide where I lie, I welcome any and all opinions! Not to mention the colors they come in...

Rainy Day

It is raining cats and dogs here in San Francisco. This morning the rain was coming down so hard as I drove to school that it felt like there were people off stage throwing buckets of water at my car. Rain seems to be a hard subject to really capture successfully on film. I think this polaroid diptych does it really nicely.

Shades of Green

Here are some pics from the quickie backpacking trip in the Santa Cruz Mountains. that I did this weekend. The redwood forest was a gorgeous and I was surprised by just how lush the vegetation is. And completely mesmerized by the variations of green. Yay for nature and fresh air.

I used to live here

I used to live here. And I used to drive to work everyday and look at that. Sometime I miss it so much it hurts, but it sure does help to look at Shaun Horne's beautiful plein air oil paintings.

Sunny Ceramic Pitchers

I adore these ceramic pitchers by Ken Eardley. Adore. {Via the Guardian}

Irving Penn

Irving Penn has passed away. He was 92. The world has lost a great visionary. Dior in Vogue, 1950s
Pablo Picasso, Cannes, France, 1957
Rock Groups, San Francisco, 1967

The Golden State

I really love these beautiful photos by Liz Kuball. They epitomize, to me the California of my dreams and the California I'm still getting to know. How much do you love that car? At 20x200. {Via Elizabeth Fleming}

Postal Press

A few of my favorite things from the lovely Postal Press.

Noooooooooooooooooooo!

I can't believe it. Conde Nast announced today that they are closing down Gourmet Magazine, which has been published since 1947. How can they do that? I'm so sad. And frankly, I think it's a awfully bad move on CN's part. I'm devastated.

John Robshaw

Some things that I like from John Robshaw, inspired by my sister and my sister-in-law.

Two Women, Two Different Films

I'm excited to see these movies. I realize that they are on the opposite sides of the spectrum. They must appeal to my inner femme and my inner feminist, respectively.

Blue Blue Skies

If this doesn't brighten your day, well, then, I just don't know what will. P.S. - I am already missing that only in summer blue blue sky. Images (and hand dyed paper bunting) from the amazing Sophie Cuvelier.
